Hello, Meetup Members!
I hope to see many of you this Tuesday at Tia Juana's in Irvine at 7:00 pm, and then again on Thursday, May 26 at Karl Strauss in Costa Mesa, also 7:00 pm. Coming up this weekend will be your next opportunities to travel to the Riverside and Palm Spring areas, courtesy of AARP, to bring the social security message there. It's fun work, tabling at arranged sites with others, free bus and free lunch! You collect cards from people who don't want to see Social Security destroyed.

That's the "meat" of our meetings -- finding out what we can do in between elections, and preparing for 2006 and 2008. And, of course, we may actually get an election in November. If so, we need to be prepared, and that means your help.

We are still working to consolidate our Meetups. We are gradually organizing under two names: Democrats (http://democrats.meet... ) and Grassroots Progressives (http://grassrootsprog... . We have the honor of having started the very first of those groups, and they are open to anyone who shares our progressive values of equal opportunity for all (among other values), no matter what the party affiliation, or lack of it! We meet, however, with the official Democratic Meetups as well, since our numbers are small during this inbetween period. As the elections draw nearer, we can split into separate meetups as desired. If you belong to several meetups that all meet at the same time, please keep your membership under the largest group, and withdraw from the others. Eventually, all the little groups with fewer than 10 members will disappear, but of course, we don't intend you to disappear with them!

Just a note also to remind you that there are many more excellent political meetups in other areas of OC, and a few with different meeting days.
